ABOUT IBIZA
The island is a popular holiday destination among young people, mainly due to the busy nightlife on the island. Well-known DJs go to Ibiza every year, where they often commit themselves to one discotheque throughout the summer. The Café del Mar has been on the west coast since 1980, and is known for its beach parties and the music produced by the café itself. Typical are the many villas in which the hippie culture is still reflected, while Moorish and Balinese elements are often combined with the traditional style of the fincas (the original Spanish farmhouses). In addition to being a sun, beach and party destination, mainly in the south, the island also has a quiet side, which makes it popular with hikers and yoga practitioners. For several years now, the local government has pursued a policy of promoting Ibiza as a family destination. Ibiza Town has been on the World Heritage List since 1999. The old, higher situated, walled inner city, with the cathedral and the archaeological museum as the main attractions, is called Dalt Vila. Ten kilometers to the west are the ruins of the Phoenician settlement of Sa Caleta. The island has its own airport, Aeropuerto de Ibiza, which is mainly used in the summer months. There are ferry connections with Barcelona, Mallorca, Dénia, and Valencia.
